The Canine Carnival taking place at the shelter on Saturday, August 26 from 9am to 4pm. It is a day of fun for the whole family, kids and dogs especially! We will have: Dog lure course. For $5, your dog can run the lure course. Action photos of your dog on the course will be available for purchase. Don't have a dog? That's ok, it's lots of fun to watch! Dog demonstrations. The HSSCM Canine Training Institute, Michigan Search and Rescue, and Paws with a Cause organizations will be hosting demonstrations throughout the day. Canine Training Institute trainers will also have an "ask the expert" booth to ask questions about your dog's behavior and training. Free kid crafts, kid games, and kid scavenger hunt Craft/vendor booths featuring stained glass, crochet, wreaths, wood art, quilting, marbling, bird items, and more! Food truck We will be highlighting all of the craft and vendors who will have booths on our Facebook page between now and the event.
8th Annual Backyard Burgers & Brews Festival will again hit the downtown Battle Creek streets on the fourth Saturday in August. August 26 from 6-11 PM. We have Live Music, Food Trucks, Downtown Restaurants and Bars Open and the amazing Social District. We have over 30 food trucks confirmed already for this festival and we will be announcing the bands soon. Free admission to the festival. Food and beverage available for purchase from individual businesses.

Meet the duo behind Michigan's favorite travel show at the Battle Creek Welcome Center. Longtime friends Jim Edelman and Tom Daldin share the stories (and the puns) for "Under the Radar" on PBS. The two have traveled all over Michigan to find the weird, wacky and wonderful. They've co-authored three books, each one featuring 50 places to go. Come meet them and get a book signed on Wednesday, Aug. 30. They'll have books for sale and hot tips for your next road trip. While you're at the book signing, you should also check out the Cereal City Exhibit next door or the Farmers Market across the street.
