Johnny “Jake” Collier passed away at home on February 17th 2022. Jake was a loving, kind man who was cherished by all who knew him. Jake was a lifelong fisherman. One of his wishes was to share his love of fishing with the youth of Battle Creek. The Collier Family has started a Memorial Fund and would like to honor Jake’s last wishes by gifting 60 fishing rods, some simple tackle, and fishing instructions to Battle Creek Kids. In partnership with the City of Battle Creek, MI Government Small Business Battle Creek, Battle Creek Parks & Rec Department, and Smitty's Sport Shop, the rods will be distributed and fishing instructions given on the shoreline of Goguac Lake on August 13, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon. The Cereal City Triathlon and Series is designed to give kids a taste of the world of multi-sport in a fun and non-intimidating way. There will be two course options to choose from based on ability level, not age. This event is a fun, untimed event. Our goal is to promote healthy, active kids and develop a love of multi-sport events. Parents are more than welcome to time their own children for those that have a competitive drive. Before the event, please practice with your children each of the three disciplines (swim, bike, and run) as well as transitioning from one event to the other (I.E. putting socks and shoes on wet feet, taking off helmets, etc.) The Cereal City KIDS Triathlon is geared specifically for kids ages 4-13. Kids will swim, bike and run within and around Willard Beach Park. All participants will receive a completion medal, a t-shirt and swim cap. Parents are welcome to join their kids on the course . With a flat and fast course, the Cereal City Triathlon and Duathlon is a great course to set your personal best. The course and event is perfect for beginners and experienced athletes looking for good competition, great views, and some sweet swag!
