We are thrilled to announce that the renowned Post Band is celebrating its remarkable 100th year of music-making! To commemorate this incredible milestone, the band is returning to Festival Market Square, where it all began, for a special performance on Thursday, June 8th at 7 PM. Post Band, a beloved local institution, has entertained generations with their extraordinary musical talents. The upcoming concert promises to be a spectacular evening filled with nostalgia, exceptional melodies, and a celebration of the band's rich history. Please note that due to the unique nature of this event, audience members are kindly requested to bring their own chairs. Ensuring your own seating arrangements will help us accommodate as many people as possible while maintaining a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone. But that's not all! The celebration of Juneteenth began on June 19th, 1865, in Galveston TX. Juneteenth is a celebration that commemorates African American Freedom and the ending of slavery in the United States of America. In 2003, Battle Creek started Juneteenth celebrations, initiated by the Battle Creek NAACP. In 2005, Juneteenth became a State of Michigan holiday, designating the 3rd Saturday in June, as Juneteenth National Freedom Day. In 2021, Juneteenth was officially designated as a federal holiday and on March 1, 2022, the City of Battle Creek added Juneteenth as an official city holiday in Battle Creek. The Battle Creek Juneteenth Celebration Committee and the Southwestern Michigan Urban League announced in 2009 for the first time a combined event, which became Juneteenth Family Day. We are very excited to offer this celebration to the community in recognition of Juneteenth, families and especially the youth of Battle Creek. The Breaking Bred Bazaar is designed to create an open-air marketplace for makers in the Battle Creek Area to showcase their makings. We have curated a list of vendors from produce farmers to clothing designers. Boutique floral companies to handmade soaps. There also will be live music at every market from 9am-2pm. We want to build a flourishing market on Sundays in Downtown Battle Creek. Bazaars happen the last Sunday of every month, starting April 30 and ending in September.
