Juneteenth Family Day

The celebration of Juneteenth began on June 19th, 1865, in Galveston TX. Juneteenth is a celebration that commemorates African American Freedom and the ending of slavery in the United States of America. In 2003, Battle Creek started Juneteenth celebrations, initiated by the Battle Creek NAACP. In 2005, Juneteenth became a State of Michigan holiday, designating the 3rd Saturday in June, as Juneteenth National Freedom Day. In 2021, Juneteenth was officially designated as a federal holiday and on March 1, 2022, the City of Battle Creek added Juneteenth as an official city holiday in Battle Creek. The Battle Creek Juneteenth Celebration Committee and the Southwestern Michigan Urban League announced in 2009 for the first time a combined event, which became Juneteenth Family Day. We are very excited to offer this celebration to the community in recognition of Juneteenth, families and especially the youth of Battle Creek. To commemorate this incredible milestone, the band is returning to Festival Market Square, where it all began, for a special performance on Thursday, June 8th at 7 PM. Post Band, a beloved local institution, has entertained generations with their extraordinary musical talents. The upcoming concert promises to be a spectacular evening filled with nostalgia, exceptional melodies, and a celebration of the band's rich history. Del Shannon Classic Car Show

This is the Inaugural Del Shannon Classic Car Show in Battle Creek, Michigan. The car show will be held on Saturday, June 24th from 11:00 Am to 4:00 PM at the Leila Arboretum. Entrance fee for visitors attending the show will be $5 per person, plus $5 parking. If you are interesting in registering a classic car, truck, military vehicle or motorcycle for this show, advance registration is $20 per vehicle. It will be $25 per vehicle the day of the show.
