The Kellogg Community College Jazz Lab Band will present its annual Halloween concert “Horns and Howls!” this month on campus in Battle Creek. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in the Binda Performing Arts Center, at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. The Kellogg Community College Concert Band has plans to leave the audience bewitched with a spooky mix of melodies presented at its annual Halloween concert this month in Battle Creek. The band, performing under the baton of Director Christopher Momcilovich, will present its “Mystic Melodies” concert starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, in the Binda Performing Arts Center on campus at 450 North Ave. The event is free and open to the public. This hauntingly spectacular musical event promises to enchant audiences with a spine-tingling blend of diverse classical and contemporary compositions that capture the spirit of the season, including: > Hector Berlioz’s “The Damnation of Faust” > Rob Grice’s “Haunted Carnival” > Steve Reineke’s “The Witch and the Saint” > Robert W. Step into the enchanted world of Broadway's classic, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, an international sensation that has been produced in 37 countries worldwide. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical. The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. This "tale as old as time" is filled with spectacular costume and set opportunities or, even more simply staged, Disney's Beauty and the Beast offers a great opportunity to bring your entire community together for family theatre at its best.
