KCC Jazz Band “Horns and Howls!” Halloween Concert

The Kellogg Community College Jazz Lab Band will present its annual Halloween concert “Horns and Howls!” this month on campus in Battle Creek. The concert, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in the Binda Performing Arts Center, at 450 North Ave. in Battle Creek. These two longtime friends, each an accomplished musician, combine to deliver a powerful message of love, friendship, and the celebration of diversity through roots music, which is defined as Folk, blues, Spirituals, Work Songs and chants. Their message is a presentation of how music weaves all of us in America and the world together using “common chords”, which have been interpreted in different ways to reflect the experiences through these different but similar genres of music. Often performed in schools to illustrate how we are different, but all the same to promote equity and celebrate diversity. No matter the audience, the message is the same, the values that we have in common are more important than our differences. Sunday Afternoon Live! concerts are free to the public and include a family friendly reception where patrons can meet the artists and enjoy fellowship with each other.
