She was raised in Detroit during the Great Depression by a single mother who worked as a bootlegger. She began performing at a young age, entertaining patrons at her mother's speakeasy. She rose to fame in the 1940's after performing on Broadway, and later in 1941 signing a contract with Paramount Pictures. During those years she also recorded numerous singles for Capital Records. Her last feature film was in 1957 with Spring Reunion. She passed away in 2007 at the age of 86. She starred in the movie 'Dream Girl' with MacDonald Carey and Virginia Field in 1948, directed by Mitchell Leisen. A comedy film where a daydreamer, Georgie Allerton's (Betty Hutton) imagination goes to work while she falls in love with her sister Miriam's (Virginia Field) husband-to-be, Jim Lucas (Patric Knowles). The Battle Creek Community Foundation presents the premiere of Bonnie's Adventures in the Pastry Kingdom! A special holiday treat to our community, our first full length holiday movie! This is a FREE event and is open to all community members. Watch Bonnie and her friend Patchwork learn the meaning of community by helping fix a big problem in the Pastry Kingdom!
