She was raised in Detroit during the Great Depression by a single mother who worked as a bootlegger. She began performing at a young age, entertaining patrons at her mother's speakeasy. She rose to fame in the 1940's after performing on Broadway, and later in 1941 signing a contract with Paramount Pictures. During those years she also recorded numerous singles for Capital Records. Her last feature film was in 1957 with Spring Reunion. She passed away in 2007 at the age of 86. She starred in the movie 'Let's Dance' with Fred Astaire in 1950, which is the feature film in this event. During World War II Kitty McNeal (Betty Hutton) and her dance partner Donald Elwood (Fred Astaire) are performing for troops in London. Don announces his engagement to Kitty on stage, but Kitty later tells him she's recently married pilot Richard Everett, a member of a wealthy Boston family. The Kellogg Community College Concert Band has plans to leave the audience bewitched with a spooky mix of melodies presented at its annual Halloween concert this month in Battle Creek. The band, performing under the baton of Director Christopher Momcilovich, will present its “Mystic Melodies” concert starting at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29, in the Binda Performing Arts Center on campus at 450 North Ave. The event is free and open to the public. This hauntingly spectacular musical event promises to enchant audiences with a spine-tingling blend of diverse classical and contemporary compositions that capture the spirit of the season, including: > Hector Berlioz’s “The Damnation of Faust” > Rob Grice’s “Haunted Carnival” > Steve Reineke’s “The Witch and the Saint” > Robert W. We will be shutting down Michigan Ave from Hamblin Ave to Capital Ave, as well as a portion of Jackson St. Sunday October 29th from 5-8pm. This is a free event for everyone. All vehicles are welcome to attend, you will be lined up downtown Michigan Ave with one goal in mind. Pass out as much Candy to the kids that you can!! Every year we host this event and we hope this one will be the biggest one yet. ? The Battle Creek Police Department will host the 11th annual Trunk or Treat event. ? All are welcome to attend the event, located again this year at Bailey Park, 1392 Capital Ave. NE. Police staff and other volunteers will hand out candy in the parking lot in front of C.O. Brown Stadium, closest to the main, Eaton Street entrance to the park. Visitors can park in this lot and walk over to the Trunk or Treat fun. ? This annual Halloween event is free and open to the public. All Bailey Park entrances and exits will be open. ? Anyone who would like to support this community event can donate to the Battle Creek Police Department Law Enforcement Community Education Community Project Fund, a fund of the Battle Creek Community Foundation.
